An Evening of Elegance and African Culture: Dekkal Thiossane at the Palais de l'UNESCO (2006)

On Saturday May 13, 2006, the Palais de l'UNESCO resounded to the rhythms and colors of Africa at the second gala dinner organized by the Dekkal Thiossane association, a group of friends working at UNESCO. Under the prestigious patronage of the Permanent Delegation of Senegal to UNESCO, represented by Minister-Counsellor Ousmane Blondin DIOP, the event drew a distinguished audience to celebrate the richness of Africa's cultural heritage. Mr. Amadou DÈME, former Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of Senegal to UNESCO, opened the evening with an inspiring speech, underlining the importance of culture as a vector for development and dialogue between peoples. Distinguished guests included Princess Esther KAMATARI of Burundi and Madame Marie-Laure CROIZIERS DE LACVIVIER, an emblematic figure of Afro-Parisian cultural circles, nicknamed "Mama Africa". The fashion show then featured the creations of designer Sabella, presenting original pieces that captivated the audience with their elegance and creativity. The artistic line-up featured a diversity of African talent. The lively rhythms of the Guinea-Bissau group BATCHASS KO set the hall alight. BOY MARONE (Senegal), with his salsa-mbalax style, performed his famous hit "Yow Mi", transporting guests to the heart of Africa. Kaaby Kandia KOUYATÉ, a Guinean singer-songwriter and son of the famous Sory Kandia KOUYATÉ, offered up some spellbinding Mandingo rhythms. Leity MBAYE (Senegal) also captivated the audience. Nicole Yandé AMOVIN, a former chorister with Carole FREDERICKS, gave a remarkable vocal performance. The virtuosity of Moussa KONATÉ on the kora rounded off this exceptional musical show. A grand tombola, featuring a Paris-Dakar-Paris plane ticket donated by Transfret and prizes from FARIDA B (curly hair specialist), added an extra touch of festivity to the evening. The warm welcome from the president of the Dekkal Thiossane association, Mr. Mbékhor BÉYE, and the vice-president, Mrs. Paulette CORRÉA, left a lasting impression. The dinner, featuring Thiébou Dieune (Senegal's national dish), brochettes and other African specialties, delighted the taste buds of the guests. THIRD EXCEPTIONAL EDITION OF THE DEKKAL THIOSSANE GALA (2007): FESMAN III HONORED AT UNESCO PALACE

On Saturday May 5, 2007, the Palais de l'UNESCO hosted the grand gala evening of the Dekkal Thiossane association, an event placed under the patronage of the Permanent Delegation of Senegal to UNESCO and in partnership with the Organizing Committee of the 3rd World Festival of Black Arts (FESMAN III). In keeping with Dekkal Thiossane's mission to promote African artists and creators, the evening was attended by some 300 people: ambassadors, diplomats, international civil servants, businessmen, artists and cultural players. The evening began with a welcome speech by Mr. Mbékhor BÉYE, President of the Dekkal Thiossane association, who underlined the importance of this partnership with FESMAN, sharing common objectives of safeguarding and promoting the Black African intangible cultural heritage. Mr. Abdel Kader BOYE, Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of Senegal to UNESCO, and Mr. Alioune Badara BEYE, General Coordinator of FESMAN III, then took the floor, underlining the importance of culture as a vector for development and dialogue. The fashion show was one of the highlights of the evening, presenting the creations of Senegalese designer SADIO BEE, a specialist in bogolan fabric. His designs, with their striking patterns and colors, highlighted the richness and beauty of this traditional Malian textile. The artistic line-up then transported the audience to the heart of the African continent: Guinea-Bissau music ambassador SIDO set the stage alight with his lively rhythms, while singer Arame CAMARA, a resident of the Ensemble lyrique du Théâtre National Daniel Sorano in Dakar (who had come specially for the occasion), gave a captivating performance, testifying to the richness of Senegalese music. Ivorian singer DOTHY Z and her dancers then captivated the audience with their dynamic choreography, and finally Cameroonian diva QUEEN ÉTÉMÉ, whose powerful voice mesmerized the audience, delivered a memorable performance. Among the many personalities present were Mr. Olabiyi Babalola Joseph YAÏ (Ambassador, Permanent Delegate of Benin to UNESCO), Mr. Inoussa OUSSEINI (Ambassador, Permanent Delegate of Niger to UNESCO), Professor Manda KIZABI (Deputy Permanent Delegate of the Democratic Republic of Congo to UNESCO), Mr Léopold FAYE (Consul General of Senegal in France), Mr KOUASSI (Counsellor at the Permanent Delegation of Côte d'Ivoire to UNESCO), Mr Ousmane Blondin DIOP (Minister Counsellor at the Permanent Delegation of Senegal to UNESCO), the Cameroonian stylist Imane AYISSI, the Congolese journalist Lydie OMANGA and the great Ivorian singer REINE PÉLAGIE. An exotic dinner, concocted by a renowned caterer, delighted the taste buds of the guests, lulled by the spellbinding melodies of kora virtuoso Kémang KANOUTÉ, whose subtle playing accompanied the meal. A raffle, with numerous prizes including a round-trip plane ticket Paris-Dakar, added an extra touch of festivity to the evening, which ended with a dance party. This third edition of Dekkal Thiossane's annual gala once again demonstrated the vitality and creativity of the African cultural scene, confirming the association's essential role in promoting African arts and artists. 5 TH ANNUAL DEKKAL THIOSSANE GALA AT THE UNESCO PALACE: A NOT-TO-BE-MISSED EVENT

On Saturday November 14th 2009, the Palais de l'UNESCO once again played host to an exceptional gala evening organized by the Dekkal Thiossane association, under the patronage of the Permanent Delegation of Senegal to UNESCO. This 5th edition confirmed the event's reputation, offering a rich and varied program that transported participants to the heart of African culture. A cocktail party opened the evening at 5 p.m., allowing guests to discover an exhibition of paintings and sculptures by two renowned artists: Togolese sculptor-painter Yao Metsoko and Congolese visual artist Ngimbi Bakambana. The atmosphere was enlivened by the spellbinding sounds of Guinean griot Mohamed Lamine Dioubate, accompanied by a kora player. At 8pm, guests gathered at the Palais' 7th-floor restaurant, with its breathtaking view of the Eiffel Tower, for an exotic dinner prepared by the caterer "Goût et saveur d'Afrique". This gastronomic moment was punctuated by poetry readings by Alain Alfred (Cameroonian poet) and Sarrouss (Senegalese poet, winner of the 2009 UNESCO Poetry Prize). The evening continued with a fashion show featuring creations by Ivorian stylist Anny G, enhanced by hairstyles from the Planète Coiffure Beauté salon. Speeches followed, including those by Madame Paulette Correa, President of Dekkal Thiossane, Mr. Papa Momar Diop (Ambassador, Permanent Delegate of Senegal to UNESCO), Mr. Léopold Faye (Consul General of Senegal in France) and Mr. Jean Emmanuel Foumbi (Director of Hope Finance). A series of musical performances rounded off this memorable evening. Tita Nzebi and Isaac John (Gabonese singers), Myrtille (World music), Libasse Niang and the group Étoile Musique (Senegalese dance), Nito Costa (Guinea-Bissau), and DJ Zidane (Coupé décalé from Côte d'Ivoire) kept the hall buzzing until midnight. A raffle enabled participants to win a number of prizes. Under the leadership of its President, Paulette Correa, and thanks to the impeccable organization of the association's members, the evening took place in an exceptional setting, offering a splendid view of the Eiffel Tower. The 7th floor of the Palais de l'UNESCO hosted a refined reception, where an exotic dinner delighted the taste buds of the guests. The artistic line-up was particularly rich and varied. The fashion show was the highlight of the evening, showcasing the talent of Cameroonian designer Imane Ayissi, an emblematic figure of contemporary African fashion, known for her elegance and audacity. Her creations captivated the public with their refinement and originality. Musical performances transported participants to the heart of Africa. Franco-Ivorian singer Kiane captivated the audience with her unique New World style. Congolese singer Tsunami and his dancers set the stage ablaze with their frenzied Ndombolo, making the hall vibrate to the rhythm of this emblematic dance. Bissau-Guinean singer Ramiro Naka put in a captivating performance, singing Goumbé, a typical Guinea-Bissau style. Last but not least, the Senegalese troupe Rakadiou gave a striking demonstration of sabar, the traditional Senegalese dance, whose lively rhythms and resonant tom-toms created an irresistible festive atmosphere. A tombola rounded off the evening, offering participants the chance to win numerous prizes, including a round-trip plane ticket from Paris to Dakar. Dekkal Thiossane cultural weekend at the Mairie du 15ème arrondissement in Paris

On July 6 and 7, 2019, the Mairie du 15ème arrondissement de Paris vibrated to the rhythms and colors of Africa thanks to the "Journées culturelles Week-end en Afrique", an event organized by the Dekkal Thiossane association in partnership with the Au Fil des Cultures association and the Racines Guinée-Bissau NGO. This multicultural festival, under the theme "Journeys to the heart of Senegal, Algeria and Guinea-Bissau", offered visitors a sensory voyage through the exhibition and sale of works of art, craft products, books and gastronomy, all accompanied by shows, fashion shows and cultural entertainment. On Saturday, the festivities began with a warm welcome, punctuated by the enchanting notes of a folk troupe from the Maghreb and traditional dancers from Guinea-Bissau. The opening ceremony, organized with the usual mastery of Madame Paulette CORREA and her teams, was enriched by a Tuareg tea ceremony, a moment of sharing and conviviality. His Excellency Bassirou SENE, Ambassador of Senegal to France, took a guided tour of the stands with Madame CORREA. The Embassy of Senegal in France, sponsor of the event, set up a prestigious stand manned by Ms Marie Amy MBOW (Cultural Counsellor), Mr El Hadj Malick MBAYE (Head of the Tourism Office in Paris) and Mr Sidy Mactar MBAYE (Cultural Specialist, Senegalese Ministry of Culture), promoting destination Senegal. Opening speeches were also given by Mr. Amadou DIALLO, Consul General of Senegal in France, followed by Mr. Daniel IAGOLTNIZER of the Daniel IAGOLTNIZER Foundation, patron of the association. The day's musical performances highlighted the talents of Diniz Costa (a singer from Guinea-Bissau) and AYA'M (a Franco-Senegalese singer). The afternoon was punctuated by musical entertainment, a fashion show featuring traditional "Thiossane" garments from Senegal, and dynamic performances by Belgian-Congolese rapper DEDINE HARMONIE from Belgium. Face-painting workshops for children and a tasting of culinary specialities from the three guest countries were also on offer. The day concluded with a gastronomic dinner celebrating the diversity of African flavors. On Sunday, the festive atmosphere continued with an exhibition and sale of arts and crafts, braiding and henna workshops, musical entertainment and an Arabic calligraphy workshop. The authors' stand welcomed numerous writers, including Professor Yaya DIANKA and poet Ndongo Mbaye, who declaimed Léopold Sédar Senghor's poem "Joal". The entertainment reached a climax with a rousing demonstration of traditional Guinea-Bissau dance, initiated by members of the NGO Racines Guinée-Bissau, who spontaneously drew the entire audience onto the dance floor. Members of the Au Fil des Cultures association then took over with an equally successful and infectious demonstration of Arab dance, creating an atmosphere of contagious joy and sharing. The main aim of these two days was to demonstrate the vital role played by culture in bringing peoples, communities and individuals together. The spirit of sharing and the desire to encourage the public to discover the crafts, fashion, literature and gastronomy of these three marvellous countries guided the development of this event, whose success was unanimously hailed by the participants. A VIBRANT TRIBUTE TO AFRICAN CULTURE AND ITS ARTISANS The Forum des Associations in the 15th arrondissement of Paris was a day rich in encounters and emotions. Panafro TV, invited by the DEKKAL THIOSSANE association, witnessed a vibrant gathering of talents, artists and initiatives committed to the promotion of African and Caribbean culture, and to the development of the continent. As soon as we arrived, we were struck by the positive energy emanating from the DEKKAL THIOSSANE stand, a veritable crossroads of creativity and sharing. The President, Madame Paulette CORREA, welcomed us with infectious warmth and passion. Congratulating us on our presence, she immediately emphasized the central role played by the association as a cultural mediator, and wished us to meet the many talents she had invited. And so it was that we discovered a veritable breeding ground of artists, authors, creators and entrepreneurs, all united by their love of African culture and their commitment to promoting it. We were deeply inspired by their enthusiasm and talent. We had the pleasure of crossing paths with international actress Amélie MBAYE, Senegalese singer MA SANÉ, writers Alassane CAMARA, Dr Inès Laure KAMTO, Yaya DIANKA, François ESSINDI, Jordan SIA ALGER DUDÉA, Richard OSSOMA-LESMOIS, Fatima CHBIBANE BENNACAR, Fatbintou CISSÉ, Johanne G GABON, singer Aboo AfrHipoP, coaches and trainers Carole CARRIÈRE and Essama ATANGANA, Senegalese painter and designer Fatou Kiné DIAKHATÉ, Moroccan designer Rachida AMAZZAL, and many other talents, all committed to the promotion of African culture and the development of the continent. The energy of the day was palpable thanks to the impeccable organization orchestrated by the association's secretary, Madame Aissatou DIALLO CAMARA. Her attentive presence and energy enabled each participant to express themselves freely and share their projects with passion. This morning, the doors of the Mairie opened to an immersive exhibition of works by Senegalese artists Bass DHEM and Moctar GUEYE Lika, immersing visitors in the vibrant world of "Boy Dakar" and "Être" painting and sculpture. Sacred and secular African masks also captivated attention, testifying to the richness of Africa's cultural heritage.
